The Farm Drought Support Grants program is now accepting applications to support primary production businesses in strengthening on-farm infrastructure and improving preparedness for drought conditions.
The focus areas, objectives, priorities, and themes of the program include drought management and preparedness, on-farm infrastructure development, water security improvements, irrigation system upgrades, livestock support systems, feed and fodder storage, pasture and crop restoration, farm layout optimization, and essential business continuity activities for primary production enterprises.
The program is available to eligible primary production businesses across all Local Government Areas in Victoria as well as the unincorporated area of French Island. It provides financial support for implementing on-farm infrastructure improvements and undertaking essential activities that enhance drought resilience and long-term farm sustainability.
Eligible businesses are required to provide a dollar-for-dollar matching co-contribution to access the grant funding. A grant of up to $5,000 excluding GST is available statewide for eligible primary production businesses, while businesses located in specified south west Victoria Local Government Areas may access up to $10,000 excluding GST. Those who have already received funding may apply for the difference up to the maximum amount available.
The grant supports a range of eligible activities aimed at improving farm resilience and efficiency. These include constructing or upgrading Stock Containment Areas, developing reticulated water systems, improving irrigation infrastructure, expanding grain and fodder storage capacity, internal re-fencing to better align property layouts, upgrading feed systems, restoring pasture and crops, and supporting water carting for livestock and essential farming operations.
