The LIFE Climate Change Governance and Information programme supports the development, implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of climate legislation and policy while strengthening governance and engaging both public and private stakeholders.
The key focus areas of this programme include raising awareness, incentivising behavioural change and supporting the activities of the European Climate Pact, developing green skills and capacity building for climate mitigation and adaptation policies, building capacity and awareness among end-users and the equipment distribution chain of fluorinated greenhouse gases, supporting the development and implementation of climate and energy strategies at national, regional, and local levels, facilitating activities linked to Sustainable Finance actions, improving greenhouse gas monitoring and reporting, developing geographically explicit inventories for the LULUCF sector along with carbon removal registries and certification schemes, promoting knowledge sharing on the EU Emissions Trading System, and supporting climate policy monitoring, assessment, and ex-post evaluation.
The programme operates with a total budget of €4,000,000.00 and aims to strengthen climate governance by enhancing the capacities of institutions and stakeholders while ensuring active participation from civil society. It provides opportunities for both public and private legal entities to contribute to climate action initiatives aligned with European Union priorities.
Eligible applicants must be legal entities established in EU Member States, including overseas countries and territories, as well as non-EU countries that are part of the European Economic Area or associated with the LIFE Programme. The coordinating organisation must be based in one of these eligible countries.
Through this initiative, the European Union seeks to improve the effectiveness of climate-related policies and actions by supporting capacity building, governance improvements, and informed decision-making across multiple sectors.
