The Content Vienna Competition supports innovative digital design projects that explore new technologies and creative digital formats to engage audiences and strengthen digital skills in society.
The program focuses on digital games and playful media, augmented reality, extended reality and virtual reality applications, animation and visual effects, 360° video production, digital literacy initiatives, machine learning and artificial intelligence projects, blockchain and Web3 innovations, digital content publishing, serial online content creation, and digital applications for wearable technologies, while also strengthening democratic processes in the digital space.
This competition invites creative and innovative digital projects that are currently under development, including prototypes, demo versions, concepts, and other works in progress. It aims to encourage experimentation across a wide range of digital fields while supporting the growth of Vienna’s creative and technology sectors.
A total of five creative digital projects will each receive €10,000 in prize money. In addition, two special prizes of €5,000 each will be awarded, including one focused on digital literacy under the Vienna Media Initiative and another related to participation in South by Southwest 2026 in cooperation with WKO Foreign Trade – Creative Industries. A bonus of €1,000 is also awarded to winning projects led by women.
Eligible submissions include projects in areas such as games, XR technologies, animation, digital literacy, artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital publishing, online serial content, and wearable digital applications. Submissions must be projects developed in 2025 and may include concepts, prototypes, or demo versions.
The competition is open to developers, studios, startups, companies, private individuals, and associations engaged in creative digital work. Applicants must have their residence, company headquarters, or business address in Vienna, and the submitted project must be primarily developed or implemented in Vienna. The project must also demonstrate a meaningful connection to Vienna as a location.
