Deadline Date: September 22, 2026
The European Commission is seeking applications to support projects aimed at advancing safe and sustainable bio-based innovations for the home and personal care sector while contributing to broader environmental and industrial policy goals.
The initiative aims to support key EU sustainability and industrial policies by promoting the development and large-scale deployment of safe and sustainable by design (SSbD) bio-based solutions. It focuses on advancing industrial-scale biorefineries and strengthening value chains to enable the production of high-performing, environmentally friendly alternatives for the home and personal care sector.
Proposals are expected to demonstrate industrial-scale production at Technology Readiness Level 8 of SSbD bio-based alternatives to conventional chemicals used in formulations. They should also demonstrate application in market-relevant end products, ensuring that performance requirements such as stability, shelf life, and efficacy are met or improved. Where relevant, validation at TRL 6 for industrial use cases beyond personal care applications should also be included.
The total budget for HORIZON-JU-CBE-2026-IAFlag-02 under the Horizon JU Innovation Actions is €170,760,699.00, with €20 million specifically allocated to projects focused on SSbD bio-based solutions for the home and/or personal care sector. Eligibility is open to any legal entity regardless of location, including those from non-associated third countries and international organisations, provided they meet Horizon Europe conditions. Legal entities must have legal personality and be able to exercise rights and obligations.
Participants must register in the Participant Register to obtain a Participant Identification Code (PIC) before grant agreement signing. Affiliated entities, associated partners, and entities without legal personality may participate under specific conditions, and EU bodies may also be included unless restricted. The Joint Research Centre may contribute under defined terms, and associations or groupings may participate either as single beneficiaries or alongside their members.
