Deadline Date: May 29, 2026
The Makesense Circle Academy has launched a call for applications to support aspiring and emerging recycling entrepreneurs in the Philippines through funding, training, and mentorship opportunities.
The program focuses on plastic waste reduction, green job creation, and circular economy development, with startups expected to directly address plastic waste through collection and/or manufacturing of recycled products while ensuring operational feasibility, business viability, and strong team commitment.
The Makesense Circle Academy, led by MakeSense and Plastic Odyssey, is designed as an 18-month incubation program aimed at nurturing innovative recycling enterprises in key regions including NCR, CALABARZON, and Cebu. This initiative comes in response to the country’s growing plastic waste challenge, with 2.7 million tons generated annually, highlighting the urgency for scalable and sustainable solutions.
Selected participants will gain access to seed funding of up to EUR 39,000, equivalent to approximately PHP 2.5 million, alongside intensive technical and entrepreneurship training. The program also provides access to micro-recycling units, expert mentorship, and opportunities to connect with global networks, enabling entrepreneurs to strengthen and expand their impact.
The academy offers two distinct tracks tailored to different stages of business development. Track A is designed for individuals with innovative ideas who have not yet launched their ventures, beginning with ideathon events scheduled in NCR on May 9, 2026, and Cebu on May 23, 2026. Track B, on the other hand, supports entrepreneurs who already have an existing business and are looking to scale their operations.
Eligibility for the program requires startups to operate or plan to operate within the specified regions, demonstrate alignment with environmental and economic goals, and show readiness in terms of land access for micro-recycling activities. Additionally, teams must consist of at least two committed members capable of fully participating in the duration of the incubation program.
This initiative is implemented under the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership: Green Business, Infrastructure, and Finance, with collaboration from Expertise France, the Department of Trade and Industry Philippines, and GGGI Philippines, reflecting a coordinated effort to foster sustainable enterprise development in the country.
