Deadline Date: May 13, 2026
The Australia-Korea Foundation (AKF) 2026–27 Grant Round invites applications for projects that strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen engagement between Australia and the Republic of Korea.
The grant round supports activities that promote cooperation on bilateral, economic security and broader geostrategic issues; expand Korean literacy in Australia and/or understanding of Australia in Korea; foster arts, culture, sport and youth engagement; and advance cooperation in key emerging sectors including energy transition, critical minerals, resilient supply chains, agriculture, artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity and advanced technologies. The AKF prioritises high-quality projects that promote diversity and inclusion, including First Nations and gender-balanced representation, inclusive participation in project development and delivery, and representation of communities across Australia. Preference is also given to initiatives that inspire and engage the next generation of leaders in the bilateral relationship and that involve an identified partner from the other country who actively contributes time, in-kind support and, where possible, financial resources. The intended outcomes include delivery of impactful and well-promoted activities that catalyse new and deepen existing bilateral, institutional and community partnerships based on shared strategic goals; increased public engagement and awareness of shared interests between Australia and Korea; greater recognition in Korea of Australian excellence and expertise; stronger involvement of emerging leaders and youth in shaping bilateral cooperation; visible inclusion of diverse voices and communities; and the creation of digital assets to support broader communications efforts.
Up to $850,000 is available for the 2026–27 financial year to support one-year and, in exceptional circumstances, multi-year grants of up to three years. The minimum grant amount is $50,000 and the maximum is $150,000, with all payments provided GST exclusive and without indexation applied to multi-year grants. Multi-year proposals will only be considered where they address a specific need, demonstrate large-scale partnership and collaboration, are sustainable, and show strong potential to advance the Australia–Korea relationship over several years.
Co-contributions in the form of cash and/or in-kind support from applicants and project partners are strongly encouraged, as they strengthen the overall application. Applicants are advised to submit realistic budgets, consider alternative funding sources, and outline contingency plans in case partial funding is offered. Successful applicants may be awarded a lower amount than requested and will have the opportunity to accept or decline the revised funding offer.
Projects must commence, including the first milestone activity, by 30 June 2027 and must be completed by the Activity Completion Date specified in the grant agreement. An evaluation period of 60 days will follow the grant period.
Eligible applicants include Australian entities with an ABN, ACN or ICN; Australian consortia with a lead organisation; Australian registered charities or not-for-profit organisations; Australian local, state or territory government bodies; Corporate Commonwealth Entities; Australian statutory authorities; Australian citizens or permanent residents; citizens of the Republic of Korea; and organisations based in the Republic of Korea. Applicants must be located in Australia or the Republic of Korea and must be at least 18 years of age if applying as an individual or serving as the primary contact for an organisation.
