Deadline Date: April 09, 2026
The Lundbeck Foundation Start-Up Programme provides funding to strengthen Danish neuroscience by supporting the recruitment of researchers to permanent positions at Danish universities or hospitals from abroad or from industry.
The programme focuses on promoting a better understanding of the brain, advancing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of brain disorders, ensuring Denmark has top graduates and scientists across all career levels in biomedical, clinical, and health sciences, and encouraging diversity, including gender and ethnic origin, in research recruitment.
The programme provides DKK 7 million for up to four years for associate professors and DKK 11 million for up to four years for full professors. Eligible research proposals should fall within basic or clinical neuroscience or other scientific fields with clear relevance to neuroscience, including medical, technical, natural, and social sciences, as well as the humanities.
Applications are considered for positions that align with the institution’s strategy for strengthening its scientific and educational activities within neuroscience. Eligible positions must be permanent with salaries covered by the institution and at the associate professor or professor level. Candidates must have spent at least two years in active research outside Denmark or in industry prior to recruitment and be able to start full-time within a year after approval. The research proposal should demonstrate short- or long-term impact on advancing neuroscience and therapies for nervous system disorders, and preapproval must be obtained before the candidate can submit a step-2 application.
In the first step of the application process, only university or hospital leaders with hiring authority for permanent positions can apply. Once a preferred candidate has been identified, the candidate must submit a research proposal for final approval. The programme encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds to strengthen diversity in Danish neuroscience.
