The European Commission is seeking applications to focus on advancing next-generation aviation technologies through the development and validation of an optimized systems platform for ultra-efficient SMR aircraft.
The focus areas involve developing and validating an advanced and integrated systems platform capable of supporting critical aircraft functions while enhancing computing performance data handling efficiency safety cybersecurity and overall system reliability and ensuring readiness for future ultra-efficient aircraft deployment by 2035.
The funding amount for this opportunity is up to EUR 30 million per topic, with a maximum EU contribution of EUR 30 million per project, and only one project may be awarded funding depending on evaluation outcomes. Proposals exceeding this funding limit will not be considered eligible.
The project duration is limited to a maximum of 36 months under an Innovation Action framework, starting from a minimum Technology Readiness Level of 4 and aiming to achieve TRL 6 at the level of an optimized systems platform by project completion, supported by a clear roadmap aligned with Clean Aviation objectives for entry into service by 2035.
Eligibility criteria require that at least 15 percent of the total EU contribution be allocated to Small and Medium Enterprises, Research and Technology Organisations, and universities with beneficiary status across EU Member States or associated countries, and proposals not meeting this requirement will not be evaluated.
