Deadline Date: May 19, 2026
The European Commission invites proposals for projects focused on advancing innovative ice protection technologies tailored for next-generation ultra-efficient regional aircraft concepts.
The development and demonstration of a low power Ice Protection System for the wing and empennage of an ultra-efficient regional aircraft based on hybrid-electric propulsion is the central objective of this opportunity, with emphasis on achieving ground demonstrations up to TRL5 under representative EASA CS-25 icing conditions while ensuring a lightweight, low-drag solution compatible with non-propulsive power levels of regional aircraft.
This funding opportunity supports the creation of advanced ice protection systems designed specifically for hybrid-electric aviation platforms. The initiative aims to address the challenges of energy efficiency and aerodynamic performance by promoting solutions that operate effectively under stringent icing conditions without imposing significant power demands on the aircraft.
The expected outcome includes validated system performance through ground demonstrations that reflect real-world certification scenarios. The focus on TRL5 ensures that the technology reaches a stage where it is tested in relevant environments, providing confidence in its applicability for future aircraft integration. The emphasis on compatibility with hybrid-electric propulsion systems highlights the need for innovations that align with emerging sustainable aviation trends.
With a total budget of €329,500,000.00, the call is open to a wide range of participants. Any legal entity, regardless of its place of establishment, including those from non-associated third countries or international organisations, is eligible to participate provided they meet the conditions outlined in the Horizon Europe Regulation and the specific call requirements. Eligible entities include both organisations with legal personality and those recognised under applicable legal frameworks.
Applicants must register in the Participant Register to obtain a Participant Identification Code (PIC), which is required for validation before signing the grant agreement. While a validated PIC is not necessary at the application stage, participants will need to provide documentation confirming their legal status and origin during the grant preparation phase.
