The Wells Fargo, in partnership with Enterprise, has launched the 2026 Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge to support innovative solutions that expand access to affordable housing across diverse communities.
The focus areas for this challenge include Design and Construction, Finance, and Service Delivery and Programs.
This third cycle of the competition is designed to tackle affordable housing challenges across all types of communities, including Native, rural, suburban, tribal, and urban areas. The initiative seeks to identify proven, ready-to-scale solutions that can transform current practices and expand housing choice and access nationwide.
Eligible applicants can compete for five individual grants of $2 million each, providing substantial support to advance innovations that create meaningful, systems-level change in the housing and adjacent industries. Winners will also gain access to mentorship and coaching from industry leaders and experts, along with the opportunity to join a powerful network of Breakthrough Challenge innovators.
The competition welcomes a broad range of organizations from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., including nonprofits, mission-oriented for-profit entities, quasi-governmental organizations, housing authorities, housing finance agencies with a 501(c)(3) designation, Tribally Designated Housing Entities, and Tribal Housing Authorities.
By supporting these organizations, Wells Fargo and Enterprise aim to foster transformative solutions that improve the availability, affordability, and quality of housing for diverse communities across the United States.
