The Prawn Fisher’s Program is now accepting grant applications to support fishing businesses in handling white spot virus through financial guidance and training.
The program’s objectives are to support commercial fishing business owners in transitioning to the long-term management of white spot virus and assist them in making decisions about their future in the commercial fishing industry. Financial guidance grants of up to $1,000 and training grants of up to $9,000 are available to eligible applicants.
Eligible applicants for Financial Guidance Grants must have an Australian Business Number (ABN), be registered for GST, and be one of the following: a company incorporated in Australia, an incorporated association or co-operative, a partnership, or a sole trader. Applicants must also declare in the application form that they are not aware of any issues that could cause reputational or other risks to the NSW Government and provide evidence of ownership of a fishing business, including Estuary General Prawning – Region 1, Estuary General Prawning – Region 2, or Estuary Prawn Trawl – Clarence River shares.
Eligible applicants for Training Grants must also have an ABN, be registered for GST, and be one of the following: a company incorporated in Australia, an incorporated association or co-operative, a partnership, or a sole trader.
The program aims to empower prawn fishers to navigate challenges posed by white spot virus through structured financial advice and training opportunities, ensuring they are well-equipped to make sustainable business decisions. By providing targeted grants, the initiative offers both immediate financial support and longer-term capacity building for the fishing industry.
