Deadline Date: September 16, 2026
The UK government is inviting businesses to lead groundbreaking projects that develop, deploy, and operate innovative clean maritime technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and accelerating the decarbonisation of the maritime sector.
This competition focuses on the development of alternative fuel vessels, alternative fuel bunkering and storage infrastructure within ports, 100% battery electric vessels, vessel charging infrastructure, shore power and port energy infrastructure, and vessel energy efficiency technologies. The initiative supports the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) programme in positioning the UK as a global leader in clean maritime technology and delivering the goals of the UK Government’s Maritime Decarbonisation Strategy.
Eligible projects must have total costs between £6 million and £60 million, with a maximum grant request of £30 million, and no more than £20 million allocated to a single participant. Projects must start by 1 April 2027, claim all grant funding by 31 December 2029, and then complete a three-year demonstration phase from 1 January 2030 to 31 December 2032 without funding support. All funded organisations must intend to exploit the project results from or in the UK. Projects must start on the first of the month following approval of the Grant Offer Letter, and all costs included in the application must be eligible as outlined by Innovate UK.
Applications are encouraged from organisations of all sizes and backgrounds, with Innovate UK committed to ensuring accessibility and inclusion throughout the application process. Collaborative projects must be led by a UK-registered business and include partnerships with UK-registered ship owners, manufacturers, operators, or infrastructure owners, such as ports, harbours, marinas, inland waterways, or offshore facilities.
