The City of Williams Lake is inviting local business and property owners to enhance the aesthetics and visibility of commercial buildings through its Business Façade Improvement Program.
The program focuses on improving permanent frontage elements, enhancing building appearance and functionality, supporting business viability, and providing better service to the public. Its primary objectives include assisting in façade renovations, promoting good design aligned with the “Cariboo Theme,” and encouraging improvements in commercial areas along the downtown and highway corridor.
The Business Façade Improvement Program offers building and business owners the opportunity to receive a 50 per cent reimbursement grant of up to $5,000 for eligible façade improvement projects, with a minimum project value of $2,000. Projects must reflect quality design principles and consider the City of Williams Lake’s Official Community Plan guidelines. Eligible improvements include exterior lighting, architectural features, decorative details, mouldings and trims, façade painting, new siding, entrances, doorways, wheelchair ramps (as part of broader renovations), awnings, and affixed signage. Window upgrades are eligible only when included in more extensive enhancement projects.
To apply, the applicant must either own the property or operate a business on the property with written authorization from the property owner. Non-profit organizations and commercial tenants may also be eligible with proper consent. Applicants must have fully paid property taxes, a current valid business license where applicable, and no outstanding building permits or stop-work orders. The program does not accept applications for properties outside the designated areas, vacant buildings or businesses not currently operating, residential homes, government-owned buildings, apartment buildings, or previously funded properties.
This initiative is designed to revitalize commercial areas, improve visual appeal, and support economic activity by making commercial properties more attractive and functional for both businesses and the public. By providing financial support for quality façade improvements, the City of Williams Lake encourages local owners to invest in the appearance and accessibility of their commercial spaces, fostering a more vibrant and welcoming community.
