Open Call: Powering the Regions Industrial Transformation Stream (Australia)

Deadline: Ongoing

The Powering the Regions Industrial Transformation Stream offers to support the decarbonisation of existing industrial facilities in regional Australia through targeted funding for emissions reduction projects.

The program focuses on decarbonisation of industrial facilities, reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, electrification, energy efficiency improvements, integration of renewable energy technologies, fuel switching, development of energy storage systems, demand management systems, acceleration of emissions reduction, improvement of technological and commercial readiness, collaboration across industries, knowledge sharing, and building workforce capability for low-emissions practices.

The Industrial Transformation Stream (ITS) is designed to support existing industrial facilities in regional Australia in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning toward net zero pathways. It contributes to Australia’s national climate goals for 2030 and 2050.

The program encourages a range of approaches to emissions reduction, including electrification, renewable energy integration, and energy efficiency improvements. It also supports enabling infrastructure such as energy storage and demand management systems.

Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest followed by a full application. Projects must align with Round 3 focus areas, including innovation in industrial decarbonisation and advancing commercial deployment. Applicants must also demonstrate a direct contractual connection to an eligible industrial facility and meet requirements under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act.

The minimum grant request is $500,000. Applications will be accepted until the $180 million funding pool is exhausted.

Eligible projects must target Scope 1 and/or Scope 2 emissions and be located in regional Australia outside Greater Capital City Statistical Areas. They must also contribute to a net zero pathway and may include feasibility studies, FEED studies, trials, demonstrations, or full deployment activities.

Eligible applicants must hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be an Australian company incorporated under the Corporations Act, a state or territory-owned corporation, a local government or council, or an organisation representing local governments.
