The Feature Film and Television Production Grant provides financial support to eligible applicants for feature film and television productions that have secured a relevant market trigger or distribution agreement of fair market value.
The grant supports feature film and television productions through two funding streams: the Saskatchewan Stream and the Service Production Stream. The Saskatchewan Stream supports Saskatchewan production companies that own or co-own projects, while the Service Production Stream supports production companies without copyright ownership requirements.
Applicants who successfully receive funding through either stream may also apply for additional support through the Apprenticeship Stream. Eligible productions include feature-length films, television productions, inter-provincial co-productions, and co-ventures that demonstrate commercial intent and meet financing and production requirements.
Service Production Stream applications may receive up to a maximum of $5 million. Projects may also qualify for additional bonuses when the majority of principal photography takes place in Saskatchewan. To qualify, feature film productions must have a minimum running time of 75 minutes and demonstrate a relevant market trigger or distribution agreement representing at least 20% of eligible production costs.
Productions with budgets above $1 million must show at least 70% confirmed financing, while productions below that threshold must show at least 50% confirmed financing. Applications must be submitted before the completion of principal photography.
The grant does not support projects previously funded through the Micro-Budget Production Grant or Web Series Grant programs. Ineligible projects include news programming, talk shows, sports productions, fundraising productions, pornography, industrial productions intended for internal audiences, software applications, video distribution platforms, and certain advertising projects.
Eligible applicants must demonstrate experience in feature film or television production and must be significantly involved in the production while receiving a Producer credit on the final project. Applicants lacking sufficient experience must secure an experienced Executive Producer before applying. Productions with budgets over $250,000 must assign production rights and liabilities to a single purpose production company.
