Deadline Date: April 16, 2026
The European Commission is inviting proposals to advance Nature-based Solutions by providing robust evidence and knowledge to support their integration across various sectors to enhance climate resilience and biodiversity.
The focus areas include understanding and communicating the environmental, social, and economic impacts of NbS, enabling their integration across sectors like energy, water management, and transport. Objectives include providing credible evidence on the long-term effectiveness of NbS in diverse climate scenarios, enhancing practitioners’ capacity to design adaptive NbS, and advancing methods to assess NbS viability. Priorities include developing large-scale pilots, assessing NbS impacts, and fostering collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners. Themes of multi-actor engagement, climate adaptation, and socio-economic considerations are central.
The European Commission is offering grants of up to €18,000,000, with an average grant of around €6,000,000, to support Nature-based Solutions development.
This initiative aims to provide policymakers and practitioners with the necessary evidence and tools to integrate Nature-based Solutions (NbS) at scale, supporting both climate adaptation and mitigation. By using a landscape and seascape approach, NbS can help address biodiversity loss and create new economic opportunities. Proposals should focus on large-scale pilots, advancing NbS methods, and assessing their long-term viability.
The initiative encourages collaboration across sectors and disciplines to ensure effective, evidence-based decision-making. Proposals should also address unintended consequences and risks associated with NbS, evaluating their environmental, social, and economic impacts.
