RFAs: Production Development Feature Film and Long Animation Film

What is it?

• In the production development phase, a production-ready scenario is expected and it concerns the elaboration of the production and financial-business setup in preparation for possible realization. This includes investigating financing possibilities, the detailed elaboration of the production budget and a suitable financing plan. In addition, a limited amount is available for a final editing (polish) of the scenario.
• Only film plans that have been developed so convincingly in terms of artistic content that there is a good chance of realisation will be eligible for a contribution towards production development.

Funding Information

• For the production-business elaboration you can request a maximum of €25,000 (incl. 15% producer fee & overhead).

Eligible Costs

• The Fund offers – depending on the phase and category as well as the nature and complexity of the film plan and the development process that the team has in mind – not only space for writing but also for involving a script coach/advisor, director or specific creative or technical experts or heads of department in the development of the film plan. If necessary, there is also space for making test recordings or for research activities. In the case of animation and research & experiment, the image development can be worked on simultaneously with the scenario development (artwork, character development, beat and storyboards).

Eligibility Criteria

• A production company (a legal entity, not a sole proprietorship or general partnership) that has been established for at least two years in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, EEA or Switzerland and that produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on a continuous basis. The production company is represented by a producer with demonstrable experience in professional film/television practice and has demonstrable experience in producing and releasing majority feature film(s) and/or long animated film(s). The producer representing the production company is not the same person as the director of the film.
• From the project development phase (and previously artistic development and production development) the application must be made by a production company and may no longer change.

Selection Criteria

• In the selection, priority is given to original scenarios and a high-quality, diverse and daring offer. Mainstream films are expected to have a level of ambition such that the films attract a wide audience in the Netherlands in terms of quality and accessibility.
