Innovate UK has opened expressions of interest for the Earthshot Prize 2026, inviting individuals, communities, businesses and organisations to apply for nomination.
The focus areas are Protecting and Restoring Nature, Cleaning Air, Reviving Oceans, Building a Waste-Free World, and Fixing Climate.
The Earthshot Prize, launched in 2020, is a global prize and platform designed to discover, celebrate and scale the best solutions to help repair the planet. Each year, five winners receive £1 million each to develop and expand their innovative projects, while 15 finalists benefit from participation in The Earthshot Fellowship Programme, which offers a year of tailored support, networking opportunities and access to partnerships.
Innovate UK, serving as an Official Nominator, will evaluate applications received through expressions of interest and select the most promising solutions to be put forward for this prestigious global prize. The criteria for successful applications include demonstrated environmental impact, potential for global or large-scale benefits, readiness for rapid scaling, technological feasibility, disruptive potential, and solutions with transformative change potential. Projects that are inclusive of indigenous and local communities, support shared economic opportunity, drive policy change, and showcase traction through funding and partnerships are encouraged.
Expressions of interest must be submitted by 16th October 2025, and late applications will not be accepted. Nominees selected by Innovate UK will then have the opportunity to compete for the Earthshot Prize.
