Submissions are now open for the Africa Earth Observation Challenge to drive entrepreneurial activity in the African space industry and promote awareness of the value of Earth Observation to a broad community.
Aims
- To identify innovative applications of space-based data across seven thematic areas, with climate change and navigation & positioning as cross-cutting areas. Also included for consideration, across all thematic areas, is innovative data collection techniques. These include upstream technologies like new satellites, onboard processing units and innovative in-situ measurement techniques.
Thematic Areas
- The 2025 thematic areas include:
- Climate change;
- Agriculture;
- Disaster Risk Reduction;
- Natural Resource Monitoring;
- Sustainable Urban/Rural development;
- Healthcare.
Eligibility Criteria
- Business location
- The Challenge is open to businesses across the African continent
- Business development level
- Early stage funding/angel investor ready businesses (TRL 8/9 and BRL 1/2/3 )
- Technology Readiness Level (TRL)
- For this Challenge they are looking for businesses that are at the ‘deployment’ technology readiness level (TRL), specifically TRL8 or TRL9.
- Business Readiness Level 1/2/3 (BRL)
- For this Challenge they are looking for businesses that are at the ’seed and development’, ‘start-up’ and ‘growth and establishment’ levels.
