Deadline Date: August 18, 2026
The Netherlands Film Fund is inviting applications to support Dutch film distributors in reducing financial risk when releasing selected foreign arthouse films and documentaries in cinemas across the Netherlands.
The scheme focuses on outspoken, artistic, high-quality and distinctive films that strengthen cultural diversity in the Dutch film landscape, including foreign children’s and youth films, and selected documentary works that have been featured at international film festivals.
The program is designed to encourage wider theatrical distribution by providing promotional and marketing support for a limited number of selected films each year, enabling them to reach broader audiences in the Netherlands.
This funding scheme provides a project-based contribution of up to €20,000 per film release. Each year, a maximum of eight project grants is awarded, with a total annual funding ceiling of €160,000. The contribution is intended to reduce distribution risks and does not require repayment from operating income.
Eligibility is restricted to film distributors who are legal entities established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, an EU member state, the EEA, or Switzerland for at least two years. Eligible applicants must have an active track record of continuous film releases in Dutch cinemas, particularly in the arthouse, documentary, or children’s and youth film segments, and must demonstrate professional capacity in film distribution.
Applicants are required to submit a synopsis or brief summary of the foreign film production, a secure screener link valid for at least eight weeks, a detailed marketing and distribution plan, a corresponding budget in the prescribed format, a distribution agreement with the production company or sales agent, a track record of past releases, a Chamber of Commerce extract, and a description of the applicant’s profile and position in the market.
