Deadline Date: April 14, 2026
The Milestone-Based Grants Programme is set to support innovative solutions that drive Kenya’s green growth, create low-carbon employment opportunities, increase income, enhance resilience, and improve quality of life.
The programme aims to increase access to modern energy services for underserved communities, expand access to quality productive use of energy solutions for MSMEs and agricultural value chains, accelerate the adoption of reliable and affordable e-mobility services, and transform the circular economy into a sustainable system emphasizing ecosystem restoration, waste recycling, reuse, value reduction, optimized resource use, and continuous resource circulation through green transition technologies.
This four-year programme, running from the first quarter of 2025 to the fourth quarter of 2028, will focus on companies with the most potential for impact and transformation across Kenya. Eligible companies that meet the selection criteria will be invited to submit applications for funding. The initiative is technology agnostic and open to companies from any region of the country.
Eligible applicants for productive use of energy and energy access solutions must either be last-mile distributors operating in underserved areas or manufacturers and aggregators who support farmers with value addition or link smallholder farmers to markets. For the circular economy and green technology interventions, eligible applicants include waste management companies specializing in recycling or value addition, as well as companies contributing to ecosystem restoration and the broader green transition.
The technology scope for the programme covers stand-alone solar systems, including pico PV systems from Tier 0.5 to Tier 2, solar pumping solutions for communities and aggregators, solar refrigerators, cold storage solutions targeting aggregators, solar driers, e-mobility solutions including the development of charging infrastructure, and other renewable solutions agreed upon within the end-user price limit. Circular economy interventions may include technologies for recycling, waste value addition, and broader green transition solutions.
This grant opportunity seeks to foster innovation, promote sustainable economic growth, and support the transformation of Kenya’s energy and resource systems while creating inclusive economic opportunities across the country.
