The Innovate UK based SMEs now have the opportunity to secure funding from Innovate UK to validate groundbreaking AI and ML innovations that could redefine industry standards.
The competition focuses on validating the technical feasibility of ambitious AI and ML innovations that could deliver step-change improvements in capability and enable new products, services, or platforms. Frontier AI in this context refers to AI and ML systems that achieve state-of-the-art benchmark performance or deliver genuinely new-to-the-world capabilities in clearly specified areas. Innovation is expected in one or more of the following: model or system architecture, training methodology, or core control and learning algorithms.
Article Body: Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), will invest a minimum of £3 million on Frontier AI, subject to receiving a sufficient number of high-quality applications. The competition is open to UK-based SMEs who will carry out project work within the UK and intend to exploit the project results domestically.
Eligible projects must have total costs between £150,000 and £250,000 and last between three to six months. Projects must start on the first day of a month and cannot begin until the Grant Offer Letter has been approved by Innovate UK. Any delays during project setup may require adjustments to the project start date.
The competition emphasizes practical innovation that demonstrates tangible improvements in AI and ML capabilities, supporting the creation of new products, services, or platforms that are competitive on a global scale.
