Deadline Date: March 27, 2026
The AGRA is seeking applications to build smallholder farmer resilience by promoting sustainable farming practices, strengthening market systems, and enabling an environment that supports food security.
The program focuses on three strategic objectives: increasing the adoption of sustainable farming practices, strengthening inclusive agricultural market systems, trade, and finance, and improving the enabling environment for agricultural transformation. It also emphasizes key priorities including seed systems development, sustainable farming models, inclusive markets, trade and finance, policy and state capability, inclusivity for women and youth, climate change adaptation, nutrition, and digitalization.
The overall period of performance for these interventions is estimated to be two and a half years, from July 2026 to December 2028, with a projected budget ranging between US$1,000,000 and US$1,300,000, subject to fund availability. The program is open to all organizations and companies legally operating in Kenya.
AGRA’s investments in Kenya are carried out in partnership with national and county governments, targeting improvements in food sufficiency and smallholder farmer incomes. Interventions are designed at the system, SME, and farmer levels, implemented through complementary and integrated business lines. Under seed systems, AGRA aims to provide farmers with access to high-quality, affordable varieties that deliver better yields and resistance to pests and diseases. The sustainable farming business line focuses on identifying and promoting farming models that overcome systemic and policy constraints to ensure sustained productivity and profitability while adapting to climate risks. Inclusive markets, trade, and finance initiatives seek to match increased farm productivity with post-harvest market opportunities, as well as access to finance and business development services.
The program also addresses policy and state capability to support agricultural transformation, ensures intentional inclusivity of women and youth across all interventions, promotes adaptation to climate change, emphasizes nutrition through sustainable food systems, and leverages digitalization to enhance program efficiency and reach.
