The Copyright Fund is now accepting applications to support initiatives that promote the growth, protection, and sustainability of the creative and cultural industries in Malawi.
The fund focuses on developing the capacity, quality, and diversity of the copyright industry, enhancing public education and awareness on copyright matters, supporting law enforcement initiatives, assisting in anti-piracy campaigns and activities, conserving and promoting Malawi’s culture through copyright works, supporting activities that develop the copyright industry, promoting the sale and marketing of creative works in local and international markets, and supporting activities that represent and promote Malawi’s creative industries at international events.
The fund seeks to establish support mechanisms for cultural industries and cultural operators to boost creativity and artistic productivity while preserving the socio-economic fabric of Malawi’s creative sector. Through financial assistance, the program aims to strengthen the development and sustainability of the country’s cultural and copyright-related industries.
Projects supported under the fund must have a maximum duration of twenty-four months. Where there is potential for extending a project, the extension may not exceed twelve months. In each call for proposals, the committee responsible for administering the fund will indicate the maximum budget allocation for projects categorized at the community, district, and national levels.
The fund provides different budget limits depending on the scale of the project. National projects may receive a maximum of 25 million Kwacha per project, district projects may receive up to 15 million Kwacha per project, and community projects may receive up to 10 million Kwacha per project.
Eligibility for the fund is open to applicants operating within the copyright or cultural sector in Malawi. Eligible applicants include incorporated companies and organizations that are duly registered under the laws of Malawi, such as foundations, associations, charities, societies, and trusts in the cultural sector. Government ministries, departments, and agencies involved in copyright or cultural sector activities are also eligible to apply.
Research institutions operating within the copyright or cultural sector may apply for support. In addition, individuals or cultural groups may be eligible if they require financial assistance for activities that fall outside their normal budgets or existing funding sources.
