The Vitalization Grant Program provides financial assistance to help businesses and organizations improve the exterior appearance of their properties in alignment with the community revitalization vision of Whitecourt.
The program focuses on assisting businesses and organizations in making permanent building upgrades that follow the architectural wood and stone theme outlined in the Town of Whitecourt Vitalization Plan, supporting businesses located in the downtown core or along the Highway 43 corridor to contribute to the community’s revitalization, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the area to improve the quality of life and well-being of residents, and strengthening the pride and profile of the Town of Whitecourt for both residents and visitors.
The Vitalization Grant Program was established to provide additional financial support to local businesses and organizations seeking to improve the exterior appearance of their buildings or properties. The initiative forms part of the broader Whitecourt Vitalization Plan, which guides efforts over several years to revitalize the downtown core and beautify the Highway 43 corridor.
Through this program, eligible applicants may receive financial support of up to 25 percent of the total project cost, with a maximum grant amount of $10,000. Funding is intended specifically for exterior enhancements that align with the architectural wood and stone design theme promoted by the community revitalization plan.
Projects supported under the program must focus on improving the visible faces of buildings that front streets or roads. To comply with the architectural guidelines, at least 20 percent of the building face must incorporate wood or stone materials in accordance with the Vitalization Plan’s design standards.
Funding decisions are evaluated using the Vitalization Grant Application Rating Sheet available on the town’s website. The grant is intended strictly for enhancement projects and cannot be used for routine maintenance or work that businesses are normally expected to undertake as part of regular operations.
Grant funds are distributed only after the completion of the approved project and after a final inspection by the Planning and Development Department. Applicants are also required to submit a summary of project costs and display signage acknowledging the Town of Whitecourt’s contribution to the project.
