The Swedish Energy Agency has launched the third call under its Sustainable Battery Value Chain program to strengthen Swedish competitiveness, support an economically efficient climate transition, and secure the nation’s energy supply.
The program is designed to stimulate battery-related research, development, and competence building to create a more resource-efficient and resilient value chain. It seeks projects that contribute to technological and business maturity while addressing sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness in the battery sector.
This funding call prioritizes projects carried out in collaboration with internationally leading research groups or companies, either in Sweden or in countries recognized for leadership in battery technology. Projects are expected to include cross-cutting analyses that assess both the technological and commercial viability of proposed solutions.
The total funds announced for this call amount to approximately 70 million SEK. Each project can apply for a maximum of 10 million SEK, while international partners can receive up to 15 percent of the requested support. For funded projects, an in-depth state-of-the-art analysis must be submitted along with the first progress report.
Eligible applicants include companies, universities and colleges, research institutes, and public sector organizations. The program encourages innovative collaborations that leverage international expertise to strengthen Sweden’s position in the global battery market.
Applicants are required to appoint qualified project managers and ensure active research exchange in international collaborations. Projects should demonstrate potential to contribute to sustainable, competitive, and secure battery value chains that address both national and global energy needs.
