The AWARE Programme is a transformative nine-month business acceleration initiative designed to empower women-led agri-food enterprises in Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia counties.
The programme focuses on tailored capacity-building training, one-on-one business coaching and mentorship, strong market linkages and access to regional markets, climate-smart and resilient agri-food solutions, reducing post-harvest losses, and increasing incomes and business growth across the horticulture, dairy, and cereals value chains.
Through AWARE, participating women entrepreneurs gain access to intensive support that strengthens their business operations and enhances their market competitiveness. The programme provides mentorship and coaching to address the unique challenges faced by women in agri-food sectors, helping them develop practical solutions that drive efficiency and resilience.
The initiative emphasizes climate-smart approaches to farming, ensuring that enterprises are not only profitable but also sustainable and adaptable to changing environmental conditions. By connecting women-led businesses with regional markets, the programme facilitates new opportunities for growth and expansion, helping enterprises scale their operations.
In addition to capacity-building and market access, the AWARE Programme offers grants of up to $5,000 for top-performing enterprises, enabling them to implement innovative solutions, reduce post-harvest losses, and increase overall profitability. The programme targets women-owned or women-led businesses that have been operating for at least two years, specifically in horticulture, dairy, or cereals, with annual turnovers ranging from KES 500,000 to KES 5 million.
This initiative represents a significant opportunity for women entrepreneurs in Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia to enhance their business skills, strengthen resilience, and achieve sustainable growth in the agri-food sector.
