CFPs: Advancing Innovative Technologies Toward Commercialization (Canada)

Deadline Date: March 17, 2026

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) provides funding and support to eligible Canadian SMEs for joint Canada–Germany R&D projects.

The focus of this funding opportunity is on joint Research and Development leading to technology commercialization, supporting projects that deliver innovative solutions across all technological and application areas, and encouraging international collaboration between Canadian and German small and medium-sized enterprises.

The total funding an individual Canadian SME may request is limited to $500,000 over 12 to 24 months, with the possibility of a 12-month extension if sufficiently justified and approved by both countries. Projects must be developed by a consortium of organizations and meet the collaborative R&D eligibility requirements.

Eligible Canadian applicants must be incorporated, profit-oriented SMEs with 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees, including at least five full-time employees located in Canada, excluding contract staff. They must pursue growth and profit by developing and commercializing technology-driven new or improved products, services, or processes in Canada. Applicants should have differentiated and protectable technologies with commercial potential in global markets and demonstrate both the financial and operational capacity to undertake an international, multi-year R&D collaboration while maintaining regular operations and commercializing the results. Preference may be given to SMEs with at least 15 full-time employees in Canada or those that have previously commercialized products internationally.

This programme provides an opportunity for Canadian and German SMEs to leverage their expertise, share resources, and accelerate the development of commercially viable, technology-driven innovations while expanding into international markets.
