Deadline: 28-January-2026
The York Entrepreneurship Development Institute (YEDI) Incubator Certificate Program offers an intensive pathway for Canadian entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into viable, market-ready ventures.
Focus Areas: YEDI accepts 15 entrepreneurs per cohort. An Expert Committee comprised of industry experts and partners will be responsible for evaluating applications based on set criteria. Applicant is the founder; co-founder(s) will be considered. Any adult age or background. A unique and innovative idea that is in raw, seed, early, or growth stage. Applicant(s) is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. YEDI is sector agnostic and will consider start-ups from any industry. Accepted students undergo a free, intensive 16-week program, including formal academic lectures by YEDI instructors, workshop-based training in entrepreneurship, and mentorship by key industry leaders. At the end of the incubator, entrepreneurs will have a professionally developed business plan, an executive summary, and a proper business model that is ready to pitch and potentially bring to the market.
The YEDI Incubator offers weekly sessions combining academic instruction and applied business development training to help entrepreneurs strengthen their foundational knowledge in entrepreneurship, marketing, business modeling, finance, and communication. Through practical modules such as business strategy, environmental scanning, and go-to-market planning, participants develop essential skills for launching and scaling successful ventures.
Participants benefit from peer clusters and milestone-based development, which encourage collaboration, feedback, and shared learning among entrepreneurs. Regular deliverables and meetings ensure that each participant progresses toward building a solid proof-of-concept by the program’s conclusion.
Mentorship is a key component of the incubator, as each entrepreneur is matched with subject matter experts from relevant industries. This network of experienced professionals provides valuable insight, problem-solving support, and business connections.
Upon completing the program, participants gain eligibility to apply for seed or venture capital funding through YEDI’s Venture Capital Fund. These opportunities support startups at the validation stage, helping them assess and advance the technical, commercial, and scientific feasibility of their products or services.
In addition, the program emphasizes communication and branding excellence, partnering with the National Communication Coaching Association of Canada (NCCA) to help entrepreneurs strengthen their business communication, branding, and pitching skills.
The Incubator concludes with the Venture Fair, where graduates present their ventures to potential investors and partners, showcasing their achievements and attracting funding and collaboration opportunities.
