The Toilet Board Coalition is inviting Sanitation Economy entrepreneurs to apply for the 2027 Accelerator Cohort, a programme designed to scale innovative sanitation solutions for low-income markets.
Focus areas of the Accelerator include business model coaching, corporate mentorship, investment readiness, improving unit economics, and preparing SMEs for strategic partnerships and growth opportunities in the sanitation sector.
The Accelerator programme has a proven track record, having graduated 111 SMEs that collectively improve sanitation outcomes for 13 million people every day and have unlocked USD 49 million in financing. Entrepreneurs participating in the programme gain a clear roadmap to scale their sanitation businesses through intensive guidance around unit economics, pathways to scale, and investment readiness.
Upon successful graduation, SMEs also benefit from ongoing support as Accelerator Alumni through the Cohort Council. Alumni enjoy relationship management and access to the Toilet Board Coalition’s network of members and partners, opportunities to shape and participate in the Coalition’s programmes, engagement in global speaking events, complimentary attendance to Coalition events, access to investment opportunities through the Coalition’s investment activities, and continued promotion through the Coalition’s media channels and publications.
The Accelerator seeks to work with SMEs operating in emerging markets across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, serving low-income customers. Participating businesses should have a scalable business model that is commercially viable and delivers sanitation in innovative, customer-centric ways. Eligible SMEs must offer sanitation economy products or services that are innovative, replicable, and proven.
The Toilet Board Coalition works with businesses in the Sanitation Economy across fields such as toilet marketplace solutions including building, operating, and maintaining toilets, sustainable menstruation and hygiene products, circular sanitation marketplaces involving collection and treatment of human waste, and smart sanitation marketplaces leveraging analytics, IoT, and sensors to monitor sanitation infrastructure and derive actionable insights including preventive healthcare.
