Deadline Date: December 31, 2025
Applications are now open for Mekong CREATES Regional Training to strengthen foundational understanding of carbon markets and emissions trading mechanisms for government agencies and agribusiness stakeholders across Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam.
The focus areas of the opportunity are to introduce key concepts and current trends in global and ASEAN carbon markets; strengthen awareness of the role of carbon markets in agri-food systems, highlighting opportunities for agriculture, forestry, and land-use sectors to generate high-integrity carbon credits and access climate finance; build basic capacity on core system elements for carbon markets; provide a platform for government and private-sector stakeholders to discuss country contexts, identify gaps in readiness, and share experiences related to carbon market development and potential agri-food applications; and promote regional collaboration and coherence, supporting CLMV stakeholders in aligning with ASEAN-wide efforts toward harmonized carbon market mechanisms and long-term carbon neutrality goals.
This opportunity is introduced in the context of emerging carbon markets that are supporting decarbonisation, enabling low-emission technologies and helping countries meet their Nationally Determined Contributions while unlocking significant financial potential for developing regions, including Southeast Asia. The training is structured into modules that cover carbon credit markets, compliance and voluntary carbon markets, carbon offset project verification, trading strategies, risk management, emerging opportunities and action planning for carbon project design and implementation. The aim is to provide participants with both conceptual grounding and practical exposure to essential elements of carbon market engagement.
Eligibility is open to nationals of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam who are affiliated with government ministries or departments, public agencies involved in greenhouse gas inventory or sustainability, agribusinesses, producer organizations, commodity associations, private sector entities, financial institutions or development organizations working on sustainability or agricultural value chains. Applicants must have responsibilities related to agriculture, climate change, sustainability or environmental management and be positioned to apply the knowledge gained within institutional or sectoral programs. They must also have the capacity and organizational support to complete a small post-training activity within three months and commit to follow-up monitoring. Foundational understanding of climate or agricultural issues, climate finance and English proficiency are required for participation.
