The program is designed to support early-stage and growth-potential fintech innovators developing digital solutions that expand access to financial services for marginalized and underserved populations, including women, youth, rural communities, and residents of peri-urban and tertiary cities. A core focus of the initiative is strengthening Cash-In/Cash-Out (CICO) agent networks through scalable fintech models that enhance service delivery, agent capacity, and customer adoption using digital technologies.
Through a structured acceleration approach, the FinWise Acceleration Program combines intensive business development support with practical market exposure. Selected startups will benefit from a 15-day in-person bootcamp in Addis Ababa, tailored mentorship and coaching, digital financial services matchmaking, and access to market and investment linkages. Seed funding opportunities are also available for fintech solutions with proven products or services, supporting long-term sustainability, revenue generation, and scalability.
The program is open to fintech startups operating anywhere in Ethiopia that are at an early or growth stage and have at least a minimum viable product or functional prototype. Priority is given to solutions that strengthen last-mile access, improve CICO networks, and promote digital financial inclusion for underserved communities. Applicants must demonstrate a clear commitment to fully participate in the 15-day in-person bootcamp.
