The Development Stream Program is designed to support technology start-ups in Nova Scotia that are tackling complex, regulated, or hardware-intensive markets.
This stream is ideal for companies rooted in strong intellectual property and backed by scientific research or deep technical innovation, providing them with the resources to advance their solutions toward commercialization.
This program offers an ideal opportunity for Nova Scotia start-ups to receive funding and support that will help them navigate complex markets, strengthen their technical innovations, and accelerate their path to global growth.
Selected start-ups can receive $40,000 in non-dilutive, non-repayable funding, disbursed on an expense claim basis. Up to $15,000 of this funding may be allocated to founder salaries, allowing entrepreneurs to focus on growth while addressing both operational and personal needs.
To be eligible, applicants must be registered businesses in Nova Scotia, in good standing, with a permanent address in the province. The majority of the workforce and senior leadership must reside in Nova Scotia. Founders must hold a majority ownership stake of 51% or more and commit to working at least 35 hours per week on the company for the duration of the program.
Applicants must have cumulative sales under $1 million and less than $250,000 in equity investment raised. Their product should be at least at the proof-of-concept or MVP stage, with validated potential customers, and they must have identified and quantified a significant global market opportunity. Companies that have previously participated in Invest Nova Scotia Accelerate are not eligible.
