The MEST AI Startup Incubation Program is inviting applications to support African entrepreneurs in developing AI startup ideas into validated, scalable, and investment-ready businesses.
The focus areas, of the program include building and testing AI startups, developing minimum viable products, rapid prototyping, user testing, and continuous iteration. It also focuses on collaboration among founders, mentorship from global experts, entrepreneurial skill development, AI innovation, business model creation, leadership training, and customer engagement.
The program is a 7-month intensive training experience followed by a 4-month incubation phase designed to support participants in transforming AI ideas into real, scalable businesses. It is structured to guide participants from idea exploration to validated AI products with market potential.
During the training phase, participants work in teams to explore AI ideas, build minimum viable products, and refine business models using lean startup methodologies. They also engage in peer collaboration, feedback sessions, and continuous learning from industry experts and startup operators.
Participants gain exposure to global AI and business leaders from organizations such as OpenAI, Perplexity AI, Google, and Meltwater, supporting both technical and entrepreneurial growth.
By the end of the training phase, participants are expected to have validated AI business ideas, built MVPs, formed strong teams, and developed sustainable leadership and team management skills. They also prepare to pitch for entry into the incubation phase of the program.
The incubation phase focuses on scaling MVPs into market-ready AI products, acquiring users, and strengthening business operations. Selected startups receive expert guidance, mentorship, and support in building traction, validating markets, and preparing for investment opportunities, including potential pre-seed funding of up to $100,000.
Eligibility is limited to individuals aged 21–35 with software development experience, basic AI understanding, and entrepreneurial interest. Applicants must be citizens of West or East African countries and must demonstrate full-time commitment for the duration of up to 12 months, including both training and incubation phases.
