Deadline: November 13, 2025
Funding agencies from 31 countries across Europe and beyond have pre-announced a joint transnational call for research and innovation projects focusing on water and health, with approximately 23.8 million euros available for projects running from September 2025 to end 2030.
The call addresses four key research topics: waterborne contaminants and health risks including occurrence, behaviour, interactions and vulnerability; innovative tools and technologies for water quality and exposure monitoring; water treatment and exposure mitigation; and governance, socio-economic innovation, and policy integration for water and health.
The joint transnational call will be launched within the framework of the future European partnership and will support research and innovation projects aimed at addressing key challenges related to the link between water and human health, including water quality, contaminants, and water treatment technologies.
The Water4All JTC 2025 adopts the One Health approach, recognizing the interconnections between human, environmental, and animal health. The call prioritizes the development of accurate, efficient, and cost-effective water quality monitoring methods to improve risk assessment and management.
The advancement in implementing sustainable water treatment technologies is recognized as crucial for ensuring safe drinking water and effective sanitation. Project results will contribute to implementing evidence-based, global, EU and national water management policies and strategies within the frameworks of the European Green Deal, the zero-pollution action plan, the Water Framework Directive, Just Transition Mechanism, Water Resilience Strategy, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Proposals should consider ongoing research activities funded by other instruments, programmes or projects and incorporate appropriate cross-cutting issues, such as socio-economic and capacity development.
Each consortium must involve a minimum of three eligible partners requesting funding from participating Funding Partner Organisations from three different countries, with at least two independent legal entities from two different EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries as recipients of financial support. A maximum of seven partners including one self-funded partner is allowed.
The call includes a special modality for Early Career Researchers, where consortium coordinators must have obtained their PhD less than 10 years prior to the call launch. An international info day webinar will be organized on September 25th, 2025, from 13:30 to 15:30 CEST.
The call opens on September 12, 2025, with preproposal submission deadline on November 13, 2025, at 15:00 CET. Full proposal submission deadline is April 13, 2026, at 15:00 CEST, with project selection in September 2026 and project start by end 2026 or beginning 2027.
