Deadline Date: March 30, 2026
The Taupō District Council is offering a funding opportunity for individuals, community groups, and organisations to support projects that focus on reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.
The fund supports initiatives that reduce the generation of waste, encourage the reuse and recovery of materials, divert waste from landfill through reuse, repair, recycling, and composting, and raise awareness of issues around food waste, single-use plastics, and other wastes.
Grants of up to $2,000 are available from an annual contestable fund of $10,000, which is sourced from the national waste levy set by the Ministry for the Environment. Applicants should note that the Council may allocate a different amount than requested, and all funding decisions depend on available resources.
Eligible applicants include individuals, schools, businesses, iwi/Māori groups, community groups, early childhood centres, and other community-based organisations within the Taupō District. Projects must be located in the Taupō District and mainly benefit the local community. All projects must contribute to waste minimisation, avoidance, reduction of landfill waste, or the recovery of materials or energy.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate sound financial management, clear objectives and planning, methods for measuring performance and success, and provide progress reporting. Any funding granted must be used within one year to complete the project or until it becomes self-sustaining. Eligibility and funding decisions are at the discretion of the Taupō District Council, and applicants who are allocated funding must read and sign the Terms and Conditions.
