Vinnova is inviting applications from Swedish aviation actors to support projects that enhance international collaboration, strengthen Sweden’s position in global aerospace research, and drive innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable development in the aviation sector.
The initiative focuses on strengthening Sweden’s positioning in global aeronautics, supporting sustainable, robust, and internationally integrated aerospace ecosystems, enhancing industrial growth, defense capability, exports, and climate-neutral air transport, fostering innovative capacity and international collaboration among Swedish aviation actors, and creating conditions for long-term competitiveness through strategic bilateral and multilateral research, innovation, and technology partnerships.
This funding call is part of the National Aeronautic Research Program (NFFP) and is open to Swedish aviation actors, including both small and large businesses, universities, university colleges, and research institutes, either individually or in consortium. Projects are intended to help Swedish actors take a more active and strategic role in global research and innovation contexts, strengthen international partnerships, and develop new collaborations with strategically important countries and programs. Collaboration between technology suppliers, product end-users, and research environments is encouraged to ensure practical and applied development.
The funding is structured into three project levels. Level 1, Preparatory International Collaboration, supports actors developing capacity to initiate, design, or plan innovation projects with international partners, with a maximum of SEK 500,000 per project and an aid intensity of 80% for up to six months. Level 2, Introductory or In-Depth International Collaboration, supports actors initiating or deepening concrete collaborations, with funding up to SEK 1 million, an aid intensity of 50%, and project durations up to 12 months. Level 3, Established International Collaboration, is for actors capable of advanced technology development with international partners, offering up to SEK 3 million per project, an aid intensity of 50%, and project durations up to 24 months.
The total call budget is approximately SEK 20 million. Eligible applicants are companies with a branch or permanent establishment in Sweden, capable of establishing or strengthening international partnerships in the aviation sector. Projects are expected to create conditions for an internationally integrated Swedish aerospace ecosystem, increase knowledge transfer, and position Swedish stakeholders strategically in global aerospace research and innovation initiatives.
