Deadline: September 16, 2025
The TECA Heat Action Wave (THAW) has been launched in Nigeria to support early-stage ventures that prepare for, respond to, and recover from extreme heat.
The focus areas include Early Warning Systems (EWS): tools, platforms, or services that forecast or alert to reduce heat risks, Fintech & Insurance: financial products such as insurance, savings, or lending that protect against heat shocks, and Enabling tech: digital, hardware, or low-tech products and services that improve resilience in health, worker safety, agriculture, fisheries, and logistics (ideally embedding financial services or early warnings). THAW is seeking businesses that help communities, workers, or industries prepare for, respond to, or recover from extreme heat in sectors such as Health, Worker Safety, Agriculture, and Fisheries.
THAW responds to Nigeria’s growing climate challenge by backing bold, locally led ventures that protect people and businesses from the impacts of rising heat. Heatwaves are already threatening food and water security, straining health systems, reducing productivity, and endangering livelihoods, especially for vulnerable populations. By empowering entrepreneurs to pioneer innovative solutions, THAW enables communities to operate more safely and efficiently as temperatures continue to climb.
The initiative targets early-stage startups or small and growing businesses with at least a conceptual prototype or pilot, evidence of early customer engagement, and a committed team or founder profile with strong community focus. These ventures will receive tailored learning opportunities, access to expert resources and workshops, and the chance to connect with global funders, networks, and partners. Selected startups will also be eligible for financial investment and follow-on support to help scale their solutions.
Applications for THAW opened on August 27th, 2025, and will close on September 16th, 2025. Interested startups and SMEs can apply or nominate ventures that align with the program’s objectives.
