Deadline: September 30, 2025
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation is now accepting applications for the Ontario Shipbuilding Grant Program (OSGP), a funding initiative designed to enhance the competitiveness and growth of Ontario’s shipbuilding industry.
The program focuses on projects that align with one or more of the following objectives: enhance operational efficiency, productivity, or economic competitiveness within Ontario’s Shipbuilding industry; unlock business growth or new business opportunities for Ontario’s shipbuilders; and enhance long-term manufacturing or organizational capacity to support the capacity of Ontario’s Shipbuilding industry.
Eligible applicants include for-profit businesses operating in Ontario with their principal business being the construction, refit, retrofit, repair, or maintenance of marine vessels for commercial, research, passenger transportation, or other special purposes. Projects must be completed within two years and take place in Ontario. Funding covers up to 50% of eligible expenditures, with a maximum contribution determined by the program guidelines.
Eligible expenditures include workforce training and upskilling, infrastructure improvements, machinery and equipment purchases, and project management costs. Ineligible costs include land or building purchases, lease or rental costs, and general facility maintenance expenses. Applicants must contribute a minimum of 25% of the total project cost and disclose any additional funding sources.
Applications must be submitted through Transfer Payment Ontario (TPON) by the specified deadline. Successful applicants will enter into a transfer payment agreement with the ministry and must adhere to reporting and insurance requirements. The program is competitive, and meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee funding.
