Deadline Date: April 23, 2026
The Façade Improvement Grant Program is seeking applications to encourage commercial and agricultural property owners to enhance or restore the exterior façades of their buildings, improving aesthetics and accessibility.
The program focuses on exterior building painting, architectural feature improvements or additions, brick and stone restoration or cleaning, installation of new masonry, repair or replacement of canopies and awnings, exterior lighting and signage enhancements, replacement or repair of siding, storefront redesign, window and door replacement, fascia signage improvements, permanent outdoor planters and accessories, and permanent exterior accessibility ramps.
The Municipality will fund 50% of the total project cost, up to $5,000, with additional funding available for heritage-designated buildings or projects involving multiple storefronts, corners, or multiple street addresses, for a maximum of $7,000. The program aims to revitalize commercial streetscapes, enhance community aesthetics, and improve accessibility across the municipality.
Eligible applicants must be merchants or commercial property owners within the Community Improvement Project Area, including agricultural buildings used for farmgate or agri-tourism purposes that are open to the public. Projects must comply with municipal by-laws, may require building or sign permits before commencement, and must not have started prior to grant approval. Properties with tax arrears or zoning non-conformity are ineligible.
Applicants may apply for one façade grant per storefront and may combine it with other programs such as Signage or Accessibility Improvement Programs, provided project criteria are met. Grants for heritage-designated buildings require approval by the Huron East Heritage Committee. Applicants must provide a minimum 50% cash contribution, and eligible costs must be documented outlays to third parties or material costs for self-performed work. Projects must be completed within the funding year unless prior approval for an extension is obtained.
