Deadline Date: January 13, 2026
The Realization Short Animation scheme, supported by the Dutch Film Fund, provides subsidies for the production of short animated films of up to 60 minutes with a focus on originality, quality, diversity, and daring storytelling.
The focus of the programme is original scenarios and the selection of a high-quality, diverse, and daring offering. You can apply to the Film Fund for a subsidy for the production of a short animated film of up to 60 minutes. In its substantive selection, the Fund prioritizes original scenarios and selects a high-quality, diverse, and daring offering. The scheme is designed to support animated film projects based on their artistic ambition, production scope, and creative strength. The Fund determines the amount of the financial contribution based on the nature, scope, and complexity of the film project and the team composition. The financial and business implications are taken into account in the decision-making process, as well as the joint vision of the producer and director or creative team regarding budget and execution.
The contribution is capped at a maximum of €110,000 for films up to 15 minutes and a maximum of €165,000 for films between 15 and 60 minutes, with the fund contribution amounting to a maximum of 85% of the production budget. It is also possible to request an additional contribution of €5,000 for distribution.
Applications can be submitted by an independent production company that has been established for at least two years in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, the EEA, or Switzerland, and that produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on an ongoing basis. The eligibility requirements vary depending on the length of the short animation and the experience of the producer, with specific conditions applying to productions under 10 minutes, productions of 10 minutes or more, and cases where the intended fund contribution is less than €50,000.
The scheme ensures that producers and creative teams meet professional standards in the Dutch film and television sector and that the producer representing the production company is not the same person as the film’s director or screenwriter, except in clearly defined circumstances for lower-budget productions.
