The IC Taiwan Grand Challenge presents a significant opportunity for innovators aiming to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, and next-generation applications.
The IC Taiwan Grand Challenge presents a significant opportunity for innovators aiming to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, and next-generation applications. The program encourages the use of advanced AI chips, cutting-edge algorithms, and high-speed transmission technologies to create solutions that address major global trends. Participants may focus on core AI technologies, smart mobility, intelligent manufacturing, medtech innovation, or sustainability-driven advancements. Each category invites transformative ideas, from AI chip design and generative models to autonomous vehicles, robotics, eHealth solutions, and energy-efficient systems.
A landing prize of USD 30,000 will be awarded to every winning team. Award recipients are required to have at least one team member participate in industry matchmaking events for a minimum of one month in Taiwan prior to signing the investment agreement. However, alternative arrangements may be negotiated to allow flexibility. The matchmaking process is tailored to the specific needs of award recipients, and the prize will be disbursed upon the completion of their obligations in Taiwan.
A wide range of applicants is welcome, including startups, juristic persons, academic institutions, and individuals who plan to collaborate with Taiwan’s semiconductor chip design and manufacturing ecosystem. Startups entering the competition must have been established within the past eight years, though this requirement does not apply to academic teams or individuals. To ensure fair participation, entities from China, including Hong Kong and Macau, as well as companies they control or invest in, are not eligible for the challenge.
Participants must hold the intellectual property rights for their proposed product, technology, or solution, or must have secured legal licensing. The competition requires the submission of a concept paper detailing core technology, verified results to date, proposed business models, and market expansion strategies. A short pitch video and additional supporting materials must accompany the application. Finalists will deliver a presentation during the secondary review stage.
Those who have previously received awards in the IC Taiwan Grand Challenge may not receive rewards again with the same team leadership, although new project leaders from institutions or companies are eligible to compete. This ensures ongoing opportunities for fresh ideas while maintaining the integrity of the competition. Overall, the challenge serves as a gateway for innovators seeking to engage with Taiwan’s world-leading semiconductor environment and drive forward the next wave of AI-powered technological breakthroughs.
