The Feasibility Study scheme seeks to help enterprises with the cost of researching their proposed business or new business idea to determine whether it could be viable and sustainable.
Health and Well-being, Sustainable Use of Resources for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, Smart Manufacturing, Marine & Maritime Technology, Aviation and Aerospace, Future Digital Technologies. The scheme supports enterprises in conducting feasibility studies that enable them to reach firm conclusions about their proposed business or new business idea, identify the resources required to carry it through, and assess its prospects for success. With the aim of further increasing gross R&D expenditure as a percentage of GDP and stimulating research and innovation capacities during the 2021–2027 programming period, investment in research and innovation has been identified as a means to promote growth across various sectors of the economy.
In this context, investment is steered towards contributing to Malta’s research and innovation landscape by fostering a culture for innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship in the areas identified in Malta’s Smart Specialisation Strategy 2021–2027. The maximum grant value under this scheme is set at €100,000 per undertaking, and where an undertaking is approved for more than one application, the total grant value of all approved applications shall not exceed €100,000. The initial allocated budget for the scheme is €2,000,000, designated specifically for the support of feasibility studies. The Feasibility Study scheme will remain effective until 31 December 2026, subject to the availability of funds.
Eligibility under the scheme is open to Micro, Small, Medium-sized, and Small Mid-Cap enterprises engaged in an economic activity, irrespective of their legal form, and subject to the exclusions outlined under the scheme. Undertakings that are not vested with a legal personality acquired through the law applicable to their establishment are required to be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code (Chapter 16 of the Laws of Malta).
