Deadline: October 01, 2025
Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency, has announced funding for preparatory projects under the Accelera FFI sub-programme to accelerate the transition to fossil-free, safe, equitable, and efficient road transport, with applications closing on 1 October 2025 at 2:00 PM.
The focus is on preparatory projects for system demonstrators that accelerate the transition to fossil-free, safe, equitable and efficient road transport. Solutions should have high technical maturity and potential to be implemented and scaled up within a few years. All five system dimensions must be addressed, and the chosen societal challenge should already have been explored in a previous feasibility study. Relevant actors must be mobilized to participate, and a plan must be developed for the system demonstrator’s implementation, funding, utilization, and dissemination of results. FFI Accelerera particularly welcomes applications concerning autonomous transportation systems, electrified transport systems, integration between energy and transport systems including energy efficiency, use of hydrogen in the transportation system, complete solutions for fossil-free construction sites, ports, mines, and circular flows such as batteries.
The programme supports projects aimed at preparing for full-scale system demonstrations that deliver innovative solutions with significant societal benefit. Funded projects should involve at least three partners, including at least one need owner, and must build on a completed feasibility study. The system demonstrators must cover all five system dimensions—behavior, culture and values, business models, regulations and standardization, infrastructure (digital and physical), and technology, products, services, and processes. Demonstrations should not only prove technical innovation but also address culture, behaviors, business models, and policies, ensuring solutions are scalable nationally and internationally.
The maximum funding available per preparatory project is SEK 900,000, with a maximum aid intensity of 75 percent and a requirement of at least 25 percent business co-financing of the total project budget. Projects can last up to 12 months, and the total funding available for this call is approximately SEK 10 million. Depending on organization type, small companies may receive up to 70 percent, medium-sized companies 60 percent, and large companies 50 percent of eligible costs. Universities, research institutes, and public organizations not conducting economic activities may be eligible for up to 100 percent funding.
Eligibility requires all project partners to be legal entities, with the coordinating party being a Swedish legal entity operating in Sweden. At least three partners, including a need owner, must participate. Proposals must be based on previous feasibility studies, written in Swedish or English, and submitted with all required attachments. The project manager must be employed by the coordinating party.
Applications will be assessed on potential, feasibility, involvement of actors, and gender equality considerations. Proposals will be evaluated competitively against these criteria by external independent evaluators appointed by Vinnova.
