Deadline: August 28, 2025
The Strengthening Markets, Productive Alliances & Financial Services in Rural Communities (SPARK) project invites micro, small, and medium enterprises in the agribusiness sector operating in Gedaref and Kassala States to submit proposals for targeted financial support through its MSME Grant Fund, designed to catalyze inclusive economic growth by addressing key market gaps and strengthening local economic systems.
The focus areas of SPARK include market-led development encouraging private-sector-led solutions and value chain efficiency, productive partnerships fostering alliances between producers, processors, service providers, and market actors, and access to finance expanding MSMEs’ ability to access capital through cost-share grants and tailored Business Development Services.
The grant fund offers two types of grants: Type A grants ranging from USD 5,000 to 20,000 targeting formally registered MSMEs capable of scaling operations and demonstrating innovation, and Type B grants up to USD 5,000 designed for informal or micro-businesses early in their development needing foundational support. All applicants must operate within Gedaref or Kassala States, contribute to the local economy, adhere to Mercy Corps policies including anti-violence and ethical business conduct, and support vulnerable groups such as youth, women, and internally displaced persons.
Applicants should submit thorough proposals showing tangible community benefits, job creation potential, and economic sustainability beyond the grant period. Mercy Corps will conduct a merit-based evaluation, including business viability, scalability and innovation, capacity to implement, and development impact. Successful applicants will undergo due diligence and receive ongoing technical mentorship and support. Grants will be disbursed in milestones linked to implementation progress and reporting.
