The SME Enhance Grant Scheme offers non-repayable financial support to Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises aiming to expand, diversify, and innovate their operations, as well as to improve productivity through strategic investments.
The scheme focuses on promoting entrepreneurship, facilitating the economic exploitation of new ideas, fostering the creation of new firms including through business incubators, reaping the benefits of digitisation for citizens, companies, research organisations and public authorities, and enhancing sustainable growth and competitiveness of SMEs while creating jobs through productive investments.
The SME Enhance Grant Scheme is administered by the Measures and Support Division within the Ministry responsible for the management of Union Funds, acting as an Intermediate Body designated by the Managing Authority. The scheme is part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) framework under the 2021-2027 programming period, falling under Policy Objective 1 ‘A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity’ of the SFC2021 Programme.
Eligible undertakings include Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises engaged in economic activity, irrespective of legal form. Start-ups that are Micro and Small Enterprises are also eligible. Undertakings without legal personality must be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code (CAP 16 of the Laws of Malta).
The total budget for the scheme is €6,000,000, with minimum grant awards of €10,000 and maximum grants of €128,400 for eligible actions, including a 7% flat rate to cover indirect costs related to the investment. The scheme will remain open until 31 December 2026, subject to availability of funds.
This incentive encourages enterprises to strategically invest in growth, diversification, and innovation, supporting the broader goal of strengthening competitiveness and fostering sustainable economic development.
