The SME Enhance Grant Scheme is designed to support undertakings through non-repayable grants that part-finance investment in activities aimed at potentially improving enterprise productivity.
This Grant Scheme falls under Policy Objective 1 ‘A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity’ of SFC2021 Programme 2021–2027 ‘Towards a smarter, well connected and resilient economy, a greener environment and an integrated society’, and addresses PO1: Promoting entrepreneurship, in particular by facilitating the economic exploitation of new ideas and fostering the creation of new firms, including through business incubators, RSO1.2. Reaping the benefits of digitisation for citizens, companies, research organisations and public authorities, and RSO1.3. Enhancing sustainable growth and competitiveness of SMEs and job creation in SMEs, including by productive investments.
Business success is dependent on the ability of enterprises to focus investment on expansion, diversification, innovation of operations, as well as on initial investments. In this context, the scheme seeks to strengthen the productive capacity of enterprises by supporting investments that contribute to improved efficiency and competitiveness. The incentive provides non-repayable grants to part-finance investment related to the eligible activities outlined under the scheme, with the aim of supporting enterprises in enhancing their productivity and long-term sustainability.
The initial allocated budget for the SME Enhance Grant Scheme is €6,000,000, ensuring targeted financial support for eligible undertakings across the programme period.The scheme will remain effective until 31 December 2026, subject to the availability of funds. The minimum grant value under this scheme is set at €10,000 whilst the maximum grantvalue is set at €128,400 for eligible actions, including an additional 7% flatrate to finance any indirect costs related to the investment.
Eligibility under the scheme is open to Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises engaged in an economic activity, irrespective of their legal form, referred to as the undertaking, and subject to the exclusions listed in the scheme conditions.
For applications submitted under the Start-up category, eligible undertakings are Start-ups classified as Micro and Small Enterprises engaged in an economic activity, irrespective of their legal form, and subject to the same exclusions.
Undertakings that are not vested with a legal personality acquired through the law applicable to their establishment are required to be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code (Chapter 16 of the Laws of Malta).
