The Northern Territory Government through Screen Territory invites applications for the Production Finance Program to support screen production growth and strengthen the Territory screen industry.
The program objectives are successful Northern Territory screen businesses, high-profile stories, and economic benefit for the Northern Territory. The program purpose is to contribute to production finance of screen projects in order to build the capacity of the Territory screen industry as well as raise the profile of the Territory and Territory storytelling. The program structure offers base funding plus incentives designed to support the development and sustainability of Territory production companies and Territory screen practitioners and is open to non-NT production companies in particular circumstances and only after prior discussion with Screen Territory.
Base funding is available up to $20,000 or up to 10% of the project’s expenditure in the Northern Territory, whichever is less. Funding may be supplemented by additional incentives up to a maximum of $100,000 in total or 25% of the Northern Territory spend, whichever is less. Applications above these thresholds may be considered in certain circumstances with prior endorsement from Screen Territory. Funding of $100,000 and above may be by recoupable equity investment, enabling participation in gross receipts proportional to other equity investors. Consideration may also be given to a limited number of applications for completion funds to support post-production undertaken in the Northern Territory.
Applicants must meet eligibility criteria. Screen Territory expects the applicant to be a Northern Territory company or an NT company in a genuine co-production relationship with a non-NT production company. Non-NT companies are eligible only if they demonstrate significant benefits to the Northern Territory and must discuss their plans with Screen Territory a month prior to application submission.
Eligible formats include feature films, adult and children’s drama and narrative comedy including television series, miniseries, telemovies and web series, and content-rich factual and documentary theatrical, television or web projects. Producers must demonstrate that their project will be completed and delivered with a confirmed pathway to audience.
