The SA National Science Week Grant Program is requesting applications to support events and activities that occur in and around National Science Week in August.
The grant program aims to inspire broad community participation in STEM in alignment with the Government’s commitment to diversity, recognise and celebrate the contributions of Australian scientists, encourage community interest in scientific pursuits, spark curiosity among younger audiences about the world around them, and promote new and innovative ways of engaging diverse audiences.
Funding of $3,000 (including GST) is available for events and activities in metropolitan Adelaide, while $3,500 (including GST) is offered for initiatives in regional and remote areas. Funding can be used for direct project delivery costs including materials, venue hire, equipment, speaker fees and travel, limited advertising expenses, and refreshments within specified caps. However, the funding does not support activities exclusively for school students, research projects, conferences, curriculum development, permanent infrastructure, surveys, teacher training, staff salaries, or software development.
Eligible activities include a wide range of innovative and engaging formats such as hands-on workshops, science fairs and exhibitions, arts-based science initiatives, interactive online events, podcasts, video productions, virtual tours, webinars, citizen science projects, digital storytelling, live-streamed presentations, and performances.
The program prioritises projects that engage audiences underrepresented in STEM, including First Nations communities, culturally and linguistically diverse populations, women and girls, people with disabilities, individuals from low socio-economic backgrounds, neurodivergent individuals, LGBTQIA+ communities, those facing age-based discrimination, and people living in regional or remote areas.
The grants are open to sole traders, community groups, organisations, businesses, industry bodies, and universities, provided that event organisers hold their own public liability insurance. Schools are not eligible to apply under this program, though alternative funding opportunities are available to them through the Australian Science Teachers Association.
