The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is inviting consulting firms/companies to submit proposals for conducting a Baseline Survey on Tourism in three priority trekking trails (API Basecamp, Manaslu Region, and Kanchenjunga Base Camp trail).
The Sustainable Tourism Project (STP) — a collaborative initiative between the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Nepal- aims to enhance local livelihoods by improving tourism facilities and services along three priority trekking trails, while promoting inclusive employment and enterprise opportunities for women, youth, and marginalized groups, and increasing both domestic and international tourist inflow through policy advocacy, digital innovation, strategic branding, targeted marketing, and media outreach.
The project intervention is expected to upgrade three priority trekking trails and enhance the basic facilities of the trekking trails and associated services, promote emerging destinations, build local capacities, and digitize tourism services. Project particularly focusing on creating tourism-based employment opportunities for poor, vulnerable, and marginalized groups including women, youth, LGBTIQ people, and persons with disabilities, Capacity development of the tourism sector workforce, standardization of tourism services, adoption of digitization, and promotion of Nepal’s tourism sector.
Purpose and Objectives
- The purpose of this consultancy is to:
- Design and conduct a baseline survey/study of STP
- Generate baseline data to support gender, age and disability-sensitive project implementation.
- Present this data to the relevant stakeholders in a validation meeting
- Present both a full baseline and an easy-read version of the report to STP/NTB/UNDP.
- The specific objectives are to assess:
- Current tourism activities and visitor profiles
- Status of tourism facilities and services
- Visitor satisfaction and feedback
- Economic contribution and income patterns of tourism-based enterprises
- Challenges and opportunities in the tourism ecosystem
Outputs
- Output 1: Tourism facilities and services in three priority trekking trails are improved to enhance the livelihoods of local communities.
- Output 2: Women, youth, and marginalized people have enhanced opportunities for employment generation and enterprise development in the Nepalese tourism industry.
- Output 3: Tourist inflow (both domestic and international) has increased through policy advocacy, digital innovation, strategic branding, targeted marketing, and media outreach.
Eligibility Criteria
- NTB/STP is soliciting proposal from interested firms/companies to provide the service of: Conduction of Baseline Survey on Tourism in three priority trekking trails (API Saipal, Maneslu Region, and Konchenjunga Base Camp trait
- The consulting firms/Companies who have submitted proposals earlier will also be required to submit their proposals in this Re-Invitation.
- Proposals that are received by (Sustainable Tourism Project) after the deadline indicated above, for whatever reason, shall not be considered for evaluation.
